Azeez and Amond earn valuable victory for Newport over play-off rivals Carlisle

Ade Azeez scored his first goal for Newport to set up the Exiles for a 2-0 home win over Carlisle to keep the Welsh side in the hunt for a League Two play-off place.
The 25-year-old striker, bought from Cambridge on deadline day in January, took only 14 minutes on his full debut to show the County fans what he can do as he nudged home a Padraig Amond header from a corner.
His first-half strike was only his 22nd league goal for nine clubs.
Carlisle’s hopes of moving back into the play-off places were ruined by a fifth game without a win.
Callum O’Hare created two great openings in the first half, but neither Hallam Hope or Stefan Scougall could find the back of the net.
The game was made safe for the home side when Amond scored his 21st goal of the season in the 67th minute after Jamille Matt had risen to meet a Josh Sheehan cross from another corner.
Carlisle earned an 85th-minute penalty when Tom Parkes was hauled down in the area, but Joe Day dived to his right to save Danny Grainger’s spot-kick to complete a miserable afternoon for the visitors.
