Tyler Walker’s 21st goal of the season earned Mansfield a 1-0 win against promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers.
The Stags had lost their last two games and desperately needed the win which came when Walker scored in the 69th minute.
Keeper Lewis Ward pushed a CJ Hamilton shot into the air and Walker beat him to it as it dropped with a fine header into the net to settle an entertaining clash. The Mansfield forward was later sent off in stoppage time.
Mansfield made a powerful start and Hamilton and Krystian Pearce went close.
In the 36th minute, Gethin Jones shot narrowly from Hamilton’s low cross and soon after Mal Benning’s shot deflected off Gavin Gunning and went wide.
Ward then had to tip over a dipping 20-yarder from Walker.
But Rovers threatened and Jordan Smith kept out low efforts from Junior Mondal and Paul Digby.
On the restart, Ward denied Walker with his legs before his goal finally settled the Stags down.
Christian Doidge and Mondal both went narrowly wide and Doidge flicked another chance just over in the final nervous minutes.
Walker was shown a stoppage time red card to blot a good afternoon for Mansfield.
