MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called on Sir Alex Ferguson to give the team talk before they take on Liverpool this weekend.

United have turned their season around going into this weekend having gone unbeaten in the Premier League with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the helm.

The Red Devils most recently defeated Chelsea in the FA Cup to exact revenge on them for their final defeat to them last season.

It gives the 45-year-old his best chance of winning silverware this season after losing to Paris St-Germain in the Champions League.

But Champions League football is the priority initially, after looking dead and buried with Jose Mourinho in charge.

At the time of his dismissal, United were 11 points behind but they find themselves a point ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal now.

The Special One’s last game in charge came against Liverpool, who roundly beat their rivals 3-1 at Anfield.

But with the return fixture coming up this Sunday, Solskjaer has made a very special request to his old mentor.

The Norwegian has leaned on Sir Alex Ferguson during his time in charge and also enjoys the advice of Mike Phelan, who was back for his second spell as No.2 at the club.

And the ex-Cardiff manager said he would welcome the chance for Fergie to come and speak to the players before their Premier League showdown.

“He would be welcome to have his talk to the players if he wanted to, the gaffer, because we know how much it meant for him to overtake Liverpool,” said Solskjaer.

“I think our players know what it means for everyone at Man Utd.”

There was also positive injury updates on Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, who were initially ruled out for the weekend.

“I hope and think Anthony will be ready and I hope Jesse will be ready because it’s two different injuries,” Solskjaer told MUTV.

“So maybe more hope than think, with Anthony as well, but he’s got a chance. Anyway we still hope Jesse could be ready. Let’s see.

“We’ve still got a couple of days’ training and they need to be part of it.”
