Nathan Thompson setback for Pompey

Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett has ruled out defender Nathan Thompson for up to another fortnight ahead of Barnsley’s visit to Fratton Park.

Thompson, who has missed the last two games after injuring a knee in training last week, sits out the visit of Pompey’s fellow promotion hopefuls and is likely to also miss the Checkatrade Trophy semi-final at Bury on Tuesday.

Midfielder Lloyd Isgrove, who joined Portsmouth on loan from the Tykes at the end of the January transfer window – and has yet to make an appearance – is ineligible for the game with his parent club.

Jackett, who has used 31 players in 13 matches since the turn of the year, may again rotate as he seeks to arrest the club’s slide following a run which has seen them claim just four points from the last 21 available.

Barnsley, who have leapfrogged Pompey into the automatic promotion places on the back of a 13-match unbeaten streak, have no fresh injury concerns for the trip.

Manager Daniel Stendel remains without 16-goal top scorer Kieffer Moore due to a concussion sustained in the 4-1 win at Gillingham on February 9.

Defender Ben Williams, who has not played since the end of January, is due to return to full training, although this game comes too soon for a return.

A number of players are suffering from fatigue after playing six games in the past 25 days, but Stendel is unlikely to make too many changes following the goalless home draw with Burton on Tuesday.
