Dundee United kept pace with the Ladbrokes Championship top two after they claimed a 2-1 win over Morton at Tannadice.
Leaders Ross County remained six points clear after beating Dunfermline by the same scoreline while second-placed Ayr beat Alloa 3-1.
The Tangerines got off to the perfect start when Calum Butcher broke into the box and his low shot was finished off by Pavol Safranko from close range in the eighth minute.
Dundee United added a second shortly before the half hour mark thanks to Peter Pawlett, who had been denied a minute earlier with a good save, after he coolly slipped the ball past Robby McCrorie.
Bob McHugh pulled one back for Morton in the 73rd minute when Greg Kiltie picked up the ball after a poor clearance and hit a low drive across the box, where McHugh was on hand to tap in for his 10th goal of the season.
