World Cup finalist Perisic was allegedly subject to an approach from Arsenal on Saturday.

According to Calciomercato, the Croatian has now asked European giants Inter to accept a bid from the Premier League side.

Inter boss Luciano Spalletti hinted before Arsenal’s interest that the player would be subject to offers in the January window.

He told reporters: “It's normal for him to talk about him in the market, because he's a strong player.

"We do not talk about those who have no requests, we talk about him because he has and everyone would like to have him in their team.

"But this must then be realised with numbers that support the thing.

"The player knows these situations well and it is expected that he will continue to do what he has always done, trying to go and get more."

The winger would likely cost in the region of £45million but has only scored three goals this season after notching 11 in the previous two campaigns.

BBC Sport man David Ornstein revealed Arsenal’s interest in the 29-year-old on Twitter, exciting Gunners fans about the possible deal.

"#AFC want loan with £35m option to buy. 29yo open to #Inter exit,” Ornstein wrote.

"Fits plan of versatile midfielder e.g. Suarez (still possible) / Nkunku + winger. Unclear if injuries mean defender wanted but Sokratis not bad."

The news comes after former Arsenal midfielder Steve Sidwell fumed at the transfer dealings of his former club after their FA Cup exit.

"What is going on with Arsenal, first and foremost, is that the transfer policy is just outrageous,” Sidwell told the Debate.

"They have gone in to this stadium to generate money and compete with the top teams in this league and to go into this window and only getting loans is just, I mean it is just ridiculous."

Arsenal are currently fifth in the Premier League - with the Europa League now their only realistic chance of silverware this season.
