Robins bemoans missed opportunities as Coventry are held by struggling Dons

Coventry boss Mark Robins rued his side’s missed chances after being forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against League One bottom club AFC Wimbledon.
The Sky Blues regularly overpassed the ball instead of testing visiting goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale at the Ricoh Arena.
Jake Jervis opened the scoring for the visitors just 72 seconds into the match before Luke Thomas’ rescued a point on the hour.
Robins’ side have now lost just once in their last five but he said: “It’s a game we should have won.
“It’s the finishing that’s the big thing for us really.
“Somebody’s got to take responsibility to shoot, even if you miss.
“Take that responsibility and have an effort.
“[Liam] Kelly’s did that at the end and hit the bar but you might just score one when you’re struggling to break teams down.
“It’s like a number of games we have played this season where we have played really well.
“We were chasing it from 90 seconds in, but it’s a game we should have won and could have won.”
However, Robins was quick to take the positives after overhauling their torrid run of form.
Coventry went nine games without a victory in all competitions before getting back to winning ways on Boxing Day – which has sparked an upturn in form.
He added: “We’ve come back from 1-0 down.
“They’re on a better run of results than we are and we have to look at it from where we are and where we have been.
“We won three on the bounce before losing to Scunthorpe and we’ve got a draw here. Things are getting better from our run before that and that’s pleasing for us.”
While Coventry have ambitions at the top end of the table, Wimbledon are fighting for their League One status and missed the chance of grabbing a vital three points.
Manager Wally Downes said: “It’s a really good point on the road for us.
“On another day we could have gone home with all three points.
“It was a great start and maybe that’s the frustrating thing for us because we couldn’t put them away despite going ahead so early on.
“We had a couple of chances and we gifted them a few ourselves. A point is probably a fair result.”
Despite the draw, the Dons are four points adrift at the foot of the table and five points from safety.
Downes added: “We know the situation we’re in and we have to keep battling for survival.
“Every game is a test especially with the position we find ourselves in.
“There has been a constant improvement in every game we’ve played and that’s all I can ask for.
“We’re getting better as a team and long may it continue because results will come with that for us.”
