McCord puts leaders Arbroath back on track with Brechin win

Ryan McCord came off the bench to grab the decider for Arbroath and get them back to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over Brechin at Gayfield Park.
The Red Lichties have been in imperious form so far this season, winning 14 of their first 18 matches, but after dropping points against Montrose and Raith Rovers in recent weeks they returned to form despite a scrappy win.
It was McCord, a second-half substitute, who headed home in the final 10 minutes to earn the victory that sees them maintain their 11-point lead at the top of League One.
For a long time during the afternoon, it had looked like Raith might close the gap at the top as they were on course for a 5-1 thrashing of 10-man Stenhousemuir, for whom Conor McBrearty was dismissed after just 21 minutes.
Rovers had already taken the lead three minutes earlier through Iain Davidson, who tapped in from close range following a corner, but after McBrearty was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle, they ran riot.
Sebastian Ross equaliser first, before Grant Gillespie restored the lead and Euan Murray and Lewis Vaughan made it 4-1 by half-time.
Chris Duggan finished off a nice team move after the break to open up a four-goal lead and secure another comfortable win for Rovers and leave Stenny stranded at the bottom.
Airdrie picked up a valuable three points as they continue to push for the top four, beating their promotion rivals East Fife 2-1 at Bayview Stadium.
Kyle Wilkie opened the scoring in the 18th minute for Airdrie, but they were pegged back almost immediately as Anton Dowds found the back of the net moments later for 1-1.
Wilkie hit the bar and the visitors saw a number of efforts kept out before Leighton McIntosh headed in on the brink of half-time for what proved to be the winner.
A brace of penalties from Martin Rennie saw Montrose win 2-1 away at Stranraer, who pulled one back through Innes Cameron but could not complete the comeback in the final half hour.
Forfar held on to beat struggling Dumbarton 3-2 despite a brace from Bobby Barr.
Barr cancelled out Dale Hilson’s opener and then, after Forfar had built a 3-1 lead through first-half John Baird and Dylan Easton goals, the midfielder pulled one back in the 85th minute to set up a tense finale.
The hosts could not find a leveller, though, as Forfar keep themselves marginally ahead of Airdrie, with just four points separating third, fourth, fifth and sixth places in the table.
