Gers gaffer Steven Gerrard was priced out of a move for his former international team mate in the summer.

But he has renewed his interest with the 36-year-old opting to leave the Vitality Stadium in search of first team football.

Gerrard was in the market for a striker and it is believed the boat has been pushed out to land Defoe.

The former Spurs and England hitman is likely to have accepted a massive drop in wages to continue his career in Glasgow.

Defoe’s salary demands were the stumbling block in the summer but this appears to have been ironed out according to Sky Sources.

Defoe has made just four substitute appearances in the Premier League with his only starts coming in the Carabao Cup.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe was reluctant to see him go, but understands his desire to play regular football.

Gerrard is also understood to be monitoring Dominic Solanke’s situation closely after the Liverpool striker’s move to Crystal Palace collapsed.

The 21-year-old was poised for Selhurst Park on a six-month loan, but that is now expected to be scrapped.

It is understood the biggest problem is Solanke’s fitness and the time he needs to be ready.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp ruled him out of festive fixtures with “muscle problems”, but is still willing to loan him out.
