BARCELONA have asked Chelsea if they can take Danish international central defender Andreas Christensen on a six-month loan for the second half of the season.

The 22-year-old has started once in the Premier League this season after falling down the pecking order in West London under Maurizio Sarri.

And Barca could be looking to test the Dane’s resolve by playing him at the Nou Camp.

Christensen was a fairly regular starter for Antonio Conte at Chelsea last season but fell out of favour towards the tail end after some poor performances.

Christensen originally joined Chelsea from Brondby as a youngster and was mooted as a promising prospect.

He then went out on loan to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2015 where he impressed a whole host of clubs with his performances.

After a two-year loan was complete, the 22-year-old rejoined his team-mates in West London in 2017.

It looked like Christensen would cement his place as a Chelsea regular but has rarely featured under Sarri.

It should be noted that Sarri tends to stick with the same team week after week and seldom does he rotate his squad.

Christensen, himself, voiced his displeasure at not featuring much, earlier this season.

"To be honest, it has been very difficult,” he told BT.

"I can't stand having to have so much patience again. I'm 22 years old now and I really want to play.

“In the last three seasons I've played regularly for the teams I've been at, so of course I don't see myself staying if my current situation remains the same in the future.

"It's too early to talk about when I'm going to move, or if I'm going to move at all. But it's clearly not a good situation for me. It has been difficult to get into the team, and when we're getting good results like we are right now, it only makes it even harder.”

Chelsea have been praised this season for their attacking style, and Christensen noted this.

“It's great for the team, but for me personally it's been a tough start to the season,” he said.

"I had looked forward to getting our new manager. We play really good football, explosive, and offensively it's all you can wish for as a player. So it's great in that sense, but it's really frustrating that I'm not on the pitch."
