Wycombe recorded their fifth consecutive home league win as they downed a spirited Shrewsbury side 3-2 in an entertaining victory.
A fast-paced opening half yielded a 2-1 advantage for the Chairboys, but it was Shrewsbury who opened the scoring as early as the third minute – an Aaron Holloway header skipped off the turf to beat home goalkeeper David Stockdale’s despairing dive.
Wycombe swiftly replied when Adam El-Abd expertly turned and fired a volley into the bottom corner in the 11th minute.
El-Abd’s strike was usurped in style later in the half as Chairboys defender Joe Jacobson angled a stunning drive into the top corner in the 40th minute.
The second half brought more enterprising play and further goals – Alex Samuel increasing the Chairboys’ lead in the 71st minute with a low drive.
Just two minutes later the Shrews capitalised on a defensive mix-up which allowed Fejiri Okenabirhie to slot an effort inside Stockdale’s far post.
The contest retained its intensity throughout, Wycombe marched on and built their excellent home league run to five wins.
