Notts County vs Cheltenham Town - Steve looking for second win in temporary charge
Posted Friday, November 16, 2018 by PA
Steve Chettle will remain in charge of Notts County when they host fellow strugglers Cheltenham in League Two on Saturday.
The caretaker manager, at the helm while a permanent replacement is found for Harry Kewell, who the club sacked on Tuesday, made a winning start against Doncaster in the Checkatrade Trophy in midweek.
He made four changes to the last starting line-up Kewell selected at Barnsley in the FA Cup, with midfielders Terry Hawkridge and Will Patching plus defenders Richard Duffy and Dan Jones coming into the team.
Strikers Jon Stead (leg) and Kane Hemmings (hamstring) missed both cup games recently and Chettle will make a check on their fitness, while defender Elliott Hewitt is suspended.
Luke Varney looks like he will come back into contention for Cheltenham, who are 23rd in the table and one place below the Magpies.
The veteran striker was not risked on Tuesday night in the Checkatrade Trophy following injury. He has had an injection and was expected to train on Thursday and be available for the weekend.
Robins boss Michael Duff gave his players a day off this week to recharge their batteries and he hopes that will have helped to nurse any minor aches and pains.
Cheltenham are unbeaten in their last four games, three of them in cup competitions, but have not won a league match since September 8.
