Tottenham EXCLUSIVE: Pochettino remains interested in Wilmar Barrios
Barrios intends to leave Argentine club Boca Juniors in January and is also wanted by Real Madrid.
But Spurs, having come close to securing a deal in the summer, are still very much in contention.
Holding midfielder Barrios, 25, who starred for Colombia at the World Cup in Russia, has a £16million release clause in his contract with Boca.
However, with troubled Spanish giants Real Madrid already lining up an offer of £20m, Spurs fear the price could escalate when the window opens in the new year.
That is the last thing the north Londoners need amid the spiralling cost of getting their new stadium fit for purpose before the end of 2018.
Barrios would be Mauricio Pochettino’s first buy since Lucas Moura’s £25m arrival from Paris Saint-Germain in the previous January window.
