David Artell: Crewe deserved more than point from Yeovil

Crewe manager David Artell felt his side should have left Huish Park with much more than a point after a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town.
Jordan Bowery gave the visitors the lead after just 14 minutes and could have had a second before half-time had Carl Dickinson not executed a great last-ditch challenge to deny the striker at the far post.
Harry Pickering also forced a fine save from the goalkeeper while Shaun Miller wasted two good opportunities after the break, but in the end that second goal did not come.
“If it was a boxing match it would have been stopped. That was a terrific performance. I spoke to a few people in the tunnel there and they said the same thing and they’re from Yeovil,” Artell said.
“They survived with a point and sometimes those draws sting. We’re getting better week in, week out now and if we play like that home and away we’ll get what we deserve. We deserved far more than a point tonight.
“We moved the ball really well. We got in behind them numerous times but couldn’t quite get our toe on the end of the ball or there were last-ditch blocks.
“There was a move in the first half where Dickinson stopped Jordan scoring his second and that would have won goal of the season, hands down. We moved it from one end to the other. It was terrific football for League Two.
“If there was one negative, it was that we didn’t score goals to tuck away those chances.”
Yeovil manager Darren Way admitted that his team were lucky to get away with a point after Alex Fisher levelled the score and – with the Glovers now winless in seven league games – he wants to see much more from his players going forwards.
“We got an open game,” Way said. “I felt our players in certain situations weren’t brave enough, certainly in the second half.
“They got chances and we had chances but I think overall we’re disappointed because if this team wants to push into the top six we have to be doing more than that.
“As individuals perhaps there’s a little bit of a lack of leadership. We’re not playing the same as we were at the start of the season.
“Overall we were happy with a point towards the end there. There’s such a fine line between winning and losing at this level and I feel there’s much more to come from this team. I don’t want the players and this football club to be just average.
“We need to keep working on the training ground and we’re close to being a good team, but at the moment we need to work much harder.”
