Arsenal boss Unai Emery tried to sign Alexandre Lacazette while at Paris St-Germain and has now challenged the striker to get even better.

Emery said: “When I arrived at PSG we were thinking to sign Lacazette.

"His quality and his characteristics also we liked at PSG. Also, the people who were working there, they said to us, 'This player has the quality to play for PSG' when we were there.

"He was at Lyon and it wasn't easy to have the conversation or to sign a player from Lyon or from PSG for Lyon. He was an option for us."

Despite being a fan of Lacazette, Emery is calling for further improvement from the forward, saying: "We are speaking together with Laca.

"For him, last year, his first year in the Premier League, it was a different league than the French league also and the position also, the rhythm also, not the mentality because he has a very good mentality and he has very good chances usually to score. He is very efficient.

"But he needs to continue his adaptation for us, for the Premier League, for the rhythm. This year we are looking at him one step more in this level."

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly lining up a loan move for Barcelona flop Malcom in January.

The Brazilian moved to the Nou Camp in the summer in a £45m deal but has struggled to get a look-in at his new club.

The 21-year-old Brazilian attacker has failed to start a game for the La Liga giants, and has only been on the pitch for 25 minutes.

The Express report that Arsenal, Tottenham and Inter Milan are all interested to sign him for the rest of the season.

And finally, Arsenal star Hector Bellerin has called for the club to remain grounded despite their impressive run of nine consecutive victories.

Ahead of tomorrow's clash with Leicester, the Spanish full-back said: “We need to be realistic, Rome wasn't built in a day.

"There's loads of things that are changing for us, not just as a team but as a football club so the most important thing is to believe in the way that we want to play.

"We're a team now that play from the back, we probably risk it a bit more than before, but for us it is important for our fans and for everyone around us to believe in this idea that we have.

"At the beginning it is going to be harder, but the more we train it, the more we work at it, the better we are going to get at it.

"For us it is about getting used to the system, be a team, be competitive and have this winning mentality, take it to the next level and become the team that the manager has in mind.

"I'm sure with the help of the fans and everyone at the club we will be able to do it."
