Matt Godden double haunts former club Scunthorpe in Peterborough win

Peterborough striker Matt Godden returned to haunt former club Scunthorpe as his second-half double earned his side a 2-0 win at Glanford Park.

The in-form forward, who has now netted 11 times in all competitions, finished from close range after 51 minutes before doubling both his and Posh’s tally seven minutes later from outside the box.

Neither side were able to get a real grip on a wind-affected contest during the opening 45 minutes, though what few chances there were fell to the Iron, with a chip from Stephen Humphrys finding the side-netting and Josh Morris heading over in stoppage time.

After the break, the hosts just looked to be building up a head of steam when Peterborough countered quickly following the breakdown of a Scunthorpe attack and Godden was on hand to guide a Colin Daniel cross from the left into the far corner.

The striker struck again in the 58th minute, cutting in from the right before firing his effort under the body of goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.

The hosts pushed hard to find a way back into the game, but it was Peterborough who came closest to adding a third goal when Alnwick saved from substitute Ivan Toney late on.
