Forest Green remain unbeaten thanks to Demetriou’s spectacular miss

Mickey Demetriou’s horror miss from the penalty spot ruined Newport’s chance of all three points as they drew 1-1 at unbeaten Forest Green.
Demetriou remarkably sent the ball out of the stadium from the spot on 65 minutes after Reuben Reid was adjudged to have handled.
Earlier, Mark Cooper’s side nosed ahead on 18 minutes. Dayle Grubb’s driving run and shot cannoned off County’s Scot Bennett and beyond the flat-footed Joe Day for an own goal.
Michael Flynn’s Newport found their range on 38 minutes – Padraig Amond poking in from a Robbie Wilmott cross as Rovers conceded their first goal at home in open play this season.
In a high-octane first-half, Rovers’ Carl Winchester and Reuben Reid hit the frame of the County goal.
The match reached boiling point on 64 minutes. Reid was penalised for handling the ball in a goalmouth scramble but Demetriou’s wretched strike from the penalty cleared the stand and blew the chance of snatching a win for the title-chasers.
