Juventus maintain winning record at the expense of Bologna

Juventus maintained their perfect record in Serie A as a 2-0 home win against Bologna gave the Turin club their best start to a season in 88 years.

Early goals from Paulo Dybala and Blaise Matuidi ensured Juventus would win their first six league games of the season for the third campaign running.

In the process, Massimiliano Allegri’s side tasted victory in their opening seven matches of the season in all competitions for the first time since 1930/31, having won in Valencia in the Champions League last week.

Juventus did not have to get out of second gear on Wednesday night and Mattia Perin had nothing to do in goal.

Blerim Dzemaili flashed an effort wide for Bologna, who were soon behind after 11 minutes. Dybala headed Leonardo Bonucci’s long pass forward into the path of Matuidi but his shot was saved by Lukasz Skorupski and the Argentina international acrobatically finished off the rebound for his first goal of the season.

Juventus doubled their lead five minutes later when Matuidi arrived late inside the six-yard area to finish off what looked like a mishit shot by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, whose three goals for his new club have all come in the last two Serie A matches, and Joao Cancelo worked Skorupski as Juventus sought a quick third goal but the goalkeeper was equal to both efforts.

It felt like the floodgates might open but to their credit Bologna managed to stem to flow of Juventus attacks until Dybal brought a fine fingertip save from Skorupski with a long range effort after an hour.

Shortly afterwards, Allegri replaced Miralem Pjanic with the more defensively-minded Emre Can as Juventus looked content with what they had ahead of Saturday’s clash with second-placed Napoli.

Ronaldo was still keen to get on the scoresheet, however, and he worked Skorupski with a shot across goal from the left side of the penalty area.

Ronaldo was to be frustrated twice more in injury time as the Bologna keeper made a string of fine saves in a goalmouth scramble, thwarting the Portugal captain either side of Dybala’s follow up.
