Exeter come from behind to see off Cheltenham

Exeter made it three wins in a row as a superb second-half performance saw them beat Cheltenham 3-1 at St James Park.

Cheltenham were the better team in the first period and had several chances to go in front.

Tyrone Barnett headed wide, Kevin Dawson was off target from distance and the midfielder narrowly failed to convert from close range from a dangerous low cross.

Exeter failed to test visiting goalkeeper Scott Flinders and the Robins deservedly went in front just before half-time when Dean Moxey’s error allowed Immanuelson Duku to cross for Ryan Broom to sweep home from close range.

Exeter were a different animal after the break and levelled immediately with a stunning first-time volley by Pierce Sweeney from all of 25 yards that flew low into the bottom corner.

However, Exeter turned the game on its head on 80 minutes when a smart move down the left ended with Hiram Boateng drilling a low cross in and Jayden Stockley turned the ball in from close range for his sixth goal of the campaign.

Jon Forte then wrapped up the points in the 88th minute when he ran through on goal and curled a fine shot beyond Flinders and into the far corner – the 1,000th goal of the Supporters’ Trust era at Exeter that sees them retain their three point lead at the top of the League Two table.
