Points shared in East Anglia derby

Ipswich are still seeking their first win of the season, and a long awaited victory over Norwich, after drawing the East Anglia derby at Portman Road.

The home side took the lead in the 57th minute through Gwion Edwards but Moritz Leitner replied for the visitors 14 minutes later.

The 1-1 draw means Ipswich still sit in the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone, one place above bottom club Reading, with Norwich climbing to 17th.

Play was held up in the 10th minute following a clash deep in Norwich territory when Ipswich’s Kayden Jackson collided with Canaries full-back Grant Hanley, who received attention for a cut face.

Three minutes later Alex Tettey headed a Leitner free-kick over and in the 28th minute Jordan Rhodes – Norwich’s on-loan Sheffield Wednesday striker, once of Ipswich – clashed with home defender Luke Chambers and both required treatment.

Five minutes later neat play between Jamal Lewis and Teemu Pukki led to Tettey firing narrowly wide of Ipswich goalkeeper Dean Gerken’s right hand post.

Pukki came close to opening the scoring when his shot glanced the outside of Gerken’s post, before on-loan Burnley striker Jonathan Walters stuck the post of Norwich keeper Tim Krul with a 34th minute shot from just outside the penalty area.

Eight minutes later Jordan Graham was booked for what referee Robert Jones ruled was a dive in the penalty area and just before the half-time whistle home midfielder Cole Skuse received a head injury following a challenge from defender Timm Klose. After receiving lengthy treatment he was replaced by Chelsea loanee Trevoh Chalobah.

Ipswich were dominating the play and they deservedly took the lead in the 57th minute when Edwards’ shot was deflected in after Walters won a header in the penalty area.

Edwards had a glorious chance to extend the home side’s lead just past the hour mark but his 20-yard shot drifted just wide.

The visitors drew level 10 minutes later when a shot from Leitner from just outside the penalty went through a crowd of players and into the Ipswich net.

The away side threatened late on but the final chance fell to the home side in stoppage-time when a throw by full-back Jonas Knudsen fell to substitute Grant Ward, who fired wide.
