Leyton Orient secure late draw at Gateshead

Marvin Ekpiteta saved Leyton Orient’s unbeaten start to the season late on in a 1-1 draw at Gateshead.
The sides cancelled each other out in the first half, but Craig Clay came close for the O’s with a deflected effort that defender Jon Mellish cleared off his line at full stretch.
Gateshead thought they had won it when Luke Armstrong smashed in his fifth goal of the season after 77 minutes from Tom White’s threaded ball.
Matters then deteriorated further for Orient as substitute James Alabi was sent off for a reckless lunge on Robbie Tinkler, but Ekpiteta found crucial space late on to salvage a point for the visitors.
