Daniel Stendel proud of ‘impressive’ Barnsley victory over Rochdale

Barnsley boss Daniel Stendel insisted Rochdale stood no chance against his dominant side as the Tykes ran out 4-0 winners at the Crown Oil Arena.

Hat-trick hero Kieffer Moore proved too hot for the home side to handle, adding his triple to Brad Potts’ opener.

It made it three wins from four League One games for Stendel’s side and the manager was impressed with what he saw.

“I am very proud of my team, it was an impressive performance from the first minute to the last,” he said. “I think Rochdale are a very good team but they had no chance today because we pressured them for the full 90 minutes and created lots of chances.

“Kieffer Moore didn’t score in first three matches but worked hard for the team and it’s great that he’s scored the goals tonight. He’s tall, quick and very mobile. We started him on the right today and he had more chances to attack by going inside and scoring the goals.

“Our midfield was also very good and we’ll be looking for the same kind of performance on Saturday at Scunthorpe, looking to press all the time. For me every opponent is a new opponent, they’re neither good nor bad, we just want to be at our best for every game and today we were.”

Moore and Tom Bradshaw had already struck the woodwork in a dominant opening from the visitors, whose first goal arrived in the 35th minute when Moore crossed for Potts to head home.

Moore’s first goal came in the 42nd minute when he met Dani Pinillos’ cross with a powerful header.

The striker’s second came three minutes into the second half when he fired home after Mamadou Thiam’s break forward. And his hat-trick was completed in the 68th minute with a fine individual effort.

Rochdale’s best effort came just after the break, Joe Rafferty’s shot beaten away by Tykes stopper Adam Davies. But it was a miserable night for former Oakwell chief Keith Hill, who tipped his hat to a superb showing from Barnsley.

“That’s the best Barnsley side that has beaten me by a country mile, and I’ve been beaten by five and six previously by them. I’m not making a joke of the situation because it’s a very serious matter,” he said. “We have been beaten by an excellent side who took advantage of our mistakes.

“I said to the players before the game that I watched a good Crystal Palace side take Liverpool, who are an excellent side, all the way with energy, with spirit and no mistakes – we made far too many mistakes.

“They are a very good side and they are going to create chances and try to nullify us.

“I know it could have been any score above four but we should not have conceded the first two goals in the manner we did, from routine crosses into the box.”
