John Coleman hails Accrington match-winner Sean McConville

John Coleman praised the attitude of two-goal Sean McConville after a well-earned victory for Accrington at Bristol Rovers.
Boss Coleman was rightly pleased with the overall team performance but had special words for the left-sided midfielder, who netted after six minutes and 89 to clinch the points.
McConville’s winner was a low first-time shot with his right foot from the left of the box and it came as no surprise to Coleman.
“I know Sean can either finish first time or check back in that situation,” he said. “By his own admission, he could score more goals because he gets into some great positions.
“We had a lot of interest in him from League One clubs during the summer, but while they could offer him a lot more money, they were not offering nearly enough to us.
“Sean could have doubled his wages, but he knows what we are about. When he signed his new deal with us he stated publicly that it was not all about money.
“It was about peace of mind and happiness. And he has never been happier than he is now.
“The move for the second goal was good. We didn’t panic in putting three or four decent passes together.
“I thought it was a cracking game with both teams playing the right way.”
Striker Stefan Payne marked his Bristol Rovers debut by heading an equaliser from James Clarke’s right-wing cross after 83 minutes.
But Stanley had already hit the crossbar through Jordan Clark’s 75th-minute shot and it was no surprise when McConville had the final say.
Rovers boss Darrell Clarke has seen his side fail to pick up a point from their first two games.
“There are a lot of concerns,” he said. “It may be only the second game, but I’m not seeing the things from my players that I see on the training ground, which worries me.
“The new players have shown bits of what they can do, but we haven’t knitted together as a unit as quickly as I had hoped.
“It was good for Stefan to get off the mark so soon after signing for us and he was one of our better players.
“But too many were not at their best and we have a lot of work to do. That applies to me and my coaching staff as well as the playing squad.
“We have conceded early goals in both matches and by shooting ourselves in the foot end up chasing the game. We are sloppy with the ball and are making some poor decisions.”
