AFC Wimbledon and Coventry play out goalless stalemate

Coventry battled to their first point back in Sky Bet League One after a goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmeadow.
Tetchy opening exchanges subsided as the Dons took control of the game towards the end of the first half.
Kwesi Appiah was twice unlucky not to open the scoring after a poked effort from close range was tipped to safety by Liam O’Brien in the Coventry goal and a glancing header from a Mitch Pinnock cross came back off a post in the 44th minute.
But it was Coventry who emerged from the break the stronger side.
New signing Amadou Bakayoko almost put the Sky Blues ahead in the 54th minute when he was sent clean through by Tom Bayliss, but Tom King’s touch was just enough for Wimbledon to recover.
With that, Coventry looked to see out the game and late Wimbledon pressure amounted to nothing as a last-minute penalty appeal was waved away when substitute Scott Wagstaff was felled in the Coventry box.
