The then 35-year-old damaged his cruciate ligament and meniscus during a Europa League clash with Anderlecht.

Ibrahimovic required surgery and has now shown off pictures of the scars left following his procedure.

Zlatan captioned the snap: "They said it was over. I said NO!"

Despite the horror injury at such a late stage of his career, Ibrahimovic is still playing... and scoring.

The ex-United star has scored 15 goals in just 17 MLS games - including a hat-trick in Los Angeles Galaxy's most recent game, a 4-3 win over Orlando City.

Ibrahimovic did eventually return for United, after seven months on the sidelines.

But after a superb debut season, Ibra failed to fire and was often left out of the squad by Jose Mourinho - before sealing a move across the pond.

The Swede made an instant impact too, scoring two stunning goals on his debut against Los Angeles FC.
