SECURITY: Wayne Rooney is planning an underground bunker at his Cheshire mansion

The DC United star's £6million Cheshire home was targeted in a raid when he was playing in a testimonial.

Father-of-three Rooney reportedly wants the outbuilding near the entrance.

The building could include space for a guard, a CCTV room and turf-covered roof, reports the Sun.

A decision on the application will be made in September.

Former serviceman Robert McNamara, 25, from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, was jailed for two years and eight months for attempting to burgle the mansion.

Rooney’s wife Coleen said she didn’t want her two young boys playing in the garden after the attempted raid.

"I feared for my children playing outside in the garden and still do," she said in a victim impact statement read at Chester Crown Court.

England’s highest ever goalscorer will now be splitting his time between Britain and the USA after signing for the Washington-based side.

The new mansion boasts a cinema, swimming pool, two fishing lakes, a five-a-side pitch and 40 acres.
