That’s according to Gunners legend Ray Parlour.

Meyer is a free agent following the expiration of his Schalke contract at the end of last season.

The German was once regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects and has been linked with a move to the Emirates.

New boss Unai Emery has recruited well as he looks to return Arsenal to among the Premier League’s elite following a disappointing final season under Arsene Wenger.

The north London side are blessed with attacking talent but may see Meyer as a cost-effective option, although reports have suggested that they’re being put off by his wage demands.

And although Parlour does not see the attacking midfielder as a priority signing, he believes he could be useful should Ozil or Henrikh Mkhitaryan lose form.

"I don’t think Max Meyer is a necessity because Arsenal already have lots of attacking options,” Parlour told bwin.

"We’ve never struggled to score goals and create goals. We’re great to watch.

"However, he’s a great player and you have to be interested in these types of players if they’re available and you want to be a big club.

"It’s a long hard season and Max Meyer may well be needed if Ozil or Mkhitaryan dropped off the pace.”
