Varane secures a Champions League and World Cup double

France's World Cup triumph in Moscow brought to an end a monumental season for Raphael Varane, with the Real Madrid defender securing a Champions League and World Cup double.
The Lens academy graduate was exceptional in the semi final victory over Belgium, and whilst he had less to do against Croatia, he still did his job to the highest standard.
As recently as May 26 he started the Champions League final in Kiev and celebrated his fourth success in that competition with Los Blancos.
At just 25 he has already lived a career that most players can only dream about, he's won four Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups, three Club World Championships, two LaLiga titles, 2 Supercopa de Espanas and one Copa del Rey.
Real Madrid moved to congratulate the French international on his achievement via the club's social media pages.
"You joined us at 18 years old and now we've seen you win a World Cup with your country. We're very proud of you, congratulations," the tweet read.
Varane becomes the 11th player in history to celebrate Champions League and World Cup success in the same season with Sami Khedira the most recent.
Roberto Carlos and Christian Karembeu also achieved the same feat whilst representing Real Madrid in 2002 and 1998 respectively.
