SPAIN and Argentina may speak the same language – but it seems the two football teams have more in common than we thought.

The two nations boarded their flights for Russia and posed for eerily similar selfies as they jetted to the World Cup.

Chelsea and Spain defender Cesar Azpilicueta uploaded this snap to Instagram... but it was eerily similar to that of their Argentine rivals

Bizarrely, both national teams even left the front seats unoccupied in the group snaps as they readied themselves for the flight to Russia.

The AFA posted their image first, before Chelsea and Spain defender Cesar Azpilicueta followed suit – but nobody can work out if La Roja had parodied their South American rivals.

Gerard Pique proved he thinks of safety first when he travels, as the Barcelona defender appeared strapped in and ready to go with his headphones in, but he just managed to pop his head up for the image.

Both Spain and Argentina have high hopes of going far in the tournament with Lionel Messi looking to go one better than he did four years ago as they were beaten by Germany in the final.

And Julen Lopetegui's squad are looking to regain the trophy they won in South Africa eight years ago.

Spain have Portugal, Morocco and Iran in Group B and have local rivals Portugal as their first opponents in the first Friday's late game.

Then Argentina face Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D, with their opening game against Iceland on the third day of the tournament, as fans get set to be treated to four games in one day.

Meanwhile Panama touched down in Russia ahead of the tournament donning the country's famous hats.

The central American are in Group G with England, Tunisia and Belgium and sported their distinctive headwear.

Felipe Baloy, Gabriel Enrique Gomez, Blas Perez and Roman Torres touched down at Saransk Airport with no chance of getting sunburn up top as they grinned for selfies.
