Notts County vs Coventry - Kevin Nolan hoping Wembley ‘dream’ comes true

Notts County boss Kevin Nolan admits the Magpies are dreaming of Wembley ahead of their showdown with Coventry.

They host the Sky Blues in Friday’s Sky Bet League Two play-off second leg locked at 1-1 from the first game.

County lost just twice at Meadow Lane in the league this season and beat Coventry 2-1 at home last month.

Nolan felt they were “robbed” after a controversial Marc McNulty penalty denied them a first-leg victory, but wants one final push to make it to Wembley.

“We’re dreaming of Wembley now and we need everyone to be on our side to help us realise that dream,” he told the Nottingham Post.

“I am hoping we can get a performance like we did last Saturday and better it on Friday.

“While we beat them here last month, what we’ve got to realise is the play-offs are a different kettle of fish.

“More often than not we are better than the team we are playing against here at Meadow Lane.

“But while we’ve made it a fortress, that doesn’t matter on Friday.

“It doesn’t mean anything to us or Coventry. They will put everything on the line to make sure they are celebrating going to Wembley.

“We’ve got to match that and if we do then it gives us a good chance of getting to the final.”

County could be unchanged with Jonathan Forte (hamstring) expected to be fit, but Coventry’s Tom Davies is suspended having been handed a retrospective three-game ban by the Football Association.

Coventry scored a controversial late penalty to equalise at the Ricoh after Matt Tootle was ruled to have fouled Tom Bayliss despite clearly winning the ball.

McNulty cancelled out Forte’s opener and boss Mark Robins believes the Sky Blues must be prepared for extra-time and penalties.

He told the Coventry Telegraph: “It will be a good game and it might even go all the way. We need to be prepared for that.

“We played really well in the first leg and only made one or two mistakes, but sadly that cost us a goal.

“There is going to be a full stadium, and that is what we look forward to. The prize at the end of it is great and we have to make sure we get the process of getting to that right.”
