Gary Bowyer will keep on pushing Blackpool as he looks to next season

Gary Bowyer says there will be no easing off from his Blackpool side as they look to end the season on a high – but says he is already looking to next season after their 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury.

Blackpool are 12th in League One and have drawn 15 games this season and Bowyer believes if they can turn a few of those draws into wins next term then they will be fighting higher up the table.

Sam Jones gave play-off bound Shrewsbury the lead after 20 minutes but Blackpool made sure of a point when Nathan Delfouneso levelled.

And Bowyer said: “You can’t fault the performance level from the players today.

“The supporters have been fantastic this year and we wanted to come out and show we appreciated them.

“The players deserved the acclaim as well for the way we have gone about it this season, the football we wanted to play and how we played it.

“Our home form has been a bit what-if as well. We had a spell where we started well, then we struggled and now we are doing well. So, it’s consistency.

“I’ve just looked at the whole stats, played 45, won 15, drawn 15 and lost 15 and we needed to turn some of those draws into victories.

“It’s fine margins here and there. Injuries in key areas for us across the course of the season, we’ve lost our two first-choice strikers for most of it.

“You need a bit of luck and when you haven’t got the biggest of budgets that’s even more important.

“We’d have taken this at the start of the season, 100 per cent. The aim at the start of the season was to consolidate and try and build.”

Shrewsbury’s assistant manager Chris Doig said: “At times it really felt like an end-of-season affair to be honest.

“I thought Blackpool played well, they are a decent team. We’ve seen them play a few times and they have decent players.

“All-in-all it’s a good point away from home. It’s performances we are looking at now in our position. I think there were a few aspects we will look to improve on in the next game and beyond.

“It was nice for Sam Jones to get his first goal for us, it was good to see that one go in. Unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise on it and go and get another one.”
