Ian Evatt takes charge of first game as Chesterfield face Wycombe

Captain Ian Evatt takes charge of his first Chesterfield game following the departure of Jack Lester and his coaching staff earlier this week when promotion-chasing Wycombe visit the Proact Stadium.

Lester left his post on Monday and Morecambe’s draw with Cambridge the following day confirmed the Spireites’ relegation from the Football League.

Evatt, who will be assisted by academy coach Miguel Llera, must first decide whether to start himself. The veteran defender missed nearly four months with a knee injury but has played two of the last three games.

Evatt could decide to change things around with hopes of avoiding the drop now over. Sam Hird, Giles Coke, Gozie Ugwu and Dylan Mottley-Henry all remain sidelined.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth has striker Adebayo Akinfenwa and defender Sido Jombati available again after injury.

Ainsworth confirmed both will travel to Derbyshire, although whether either is ready to start remains to be seen as the Chairboys chase the two victories they need to secure promotion.

Leading scorer Akinfenwa suffered a calf injury during the draw with Lincoln last week and missed the defeat by Accrington while Jombati has sat out the last three matches with a groin problem.

Dominic Gape lasted only 40 minutes on his return from illness last weekend but should have fully recovered while Scott Kashket picked up a knock. Luke O’Nien, Anthony Stewart and Dan Scarr remain unavailable.
