Sergio Ramos returns to lead Real Madrid

Real Madrid will take on Bayern Munich with their captain back in the line-up, after Sergio Ramos had to miss the second leg of the quarter-final against Juventus.

It was clear in that match that Los Blancos' defence was weaker, with the team suffering at every aerial duel and with Mario Mandzukic scoring from two crosses into the box.

As well as that defensive drop-off, Ramos was missed for his leadership skills.

Real Madrid lacked a player who could drag the team forward through what was a tough moment, until Cristiano Ronaldo was able to do so right at the end and save the day.

Ramos is experienced and he is also experienced against Bayern Munich, having played through some highs and some lows of this fixture.

The defender first met the Bundesliga side in the 2006/07 season, as he played in the second leg in Munich, as the team lost 2-1 and went out in the last 16 on away goals.

He even suffered a broken nose that night, but the next tie against Bayern was even more painful as he missed a decisive penalty in the 2011/12 semi-final shootout at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The last two clashes with Bayern have, though, been positive for him, as Real Madrid overcame the team from Bavaria on their way to the Champions League triumphs of 2013/14 and 2016/17.
