Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray only thinking about the next game

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray is refusing to take anything for granted despite seeing his side move closer to a Championship return with a 3-1 win over Peterborough.

Posh came to strengthen their own play-off ambitions and deservedly went ahead through Charlie Mulgrew’s first-half own goal.

But League One player of the year Bradley Dack inspired a second-half comeback with a brace, either side of Danny Graham’s header.

Dack’s 18th this term put the icing on the cake as Blackburn strengthened their grip on second by stretching their unbeaten home record to 19 and moving eight points ahead of third-placed Shrewsbury.

But Mowbray challenged his team to win every game to secure promotion.

He said: “The group care for each other, they work hard for each other, they don’t accept defeat and they made a connection with the fans in the second half.

“I just want to think about the next game and until the games run out for the opposition and they can’t catch us.

“They (Shrewsbury) have four games left, they can get 12 points. They can get 94 points, we’re on 90, so we need four more points because the goal difference is significant.

“We have to win Tuesday and if they keep winning we have to get a point somewhere. Let’s keep going.

“We want to finish with as many victories as we can. It would be great if we finished top of the league, yet Wigan and Shrewsbury are both in there fighting, let’s see where we finish.

“With that spirit there’s no reason to think we can’t win every game.”

Peterborough have lost their last three games and remain three points off the top six.

Manager Steve Evans praised the “magnificent” first half but was left angry at refereeing decisions.

He said: “I thought we were magnificent first half. The reality is we’ve gone a goal in front, perhaps unfortunate it’s not three.

“We’ve made good chances, Jack’s (Marriott) had a chance. We’ve had a couple of strong penalty appeals not given – the footage afterwards once again shows they should be penalties.

“Second half, Steven Taylor’s a wonderful professional, but I don’t see Mulgrew slipping when a simple ball comes into the box, and they equalised and you’re going to have to work hard.

“But there’s the most horrendous challenge from Corry Evans. Every time you look at it, it’s worse. We didn’t get that either, and then we succumbed to defensive errors.

“The second goal is so disappointing because there’s three phases to that, and I can’t put any reason on the third goal, it was a horror show.

“Blackburn will get promoted but they’ve been second best all over the pitch for 50 minutes.”
