St Mirren a step closer to league title after Brechin victory

St Mirren moved to the brink of a return to the Ladbrokes Premiership with a 1-0 victory at Brechin.
The Buddies’ fifth win in six games means they are just a point away from securing the Championship title and ending their three-year stay in the second tier.
Second-placed Livingston’s late winner against Morton kept the champagne on ice for now after Kyle Magennis’ seventh-minute strike was enough to see off already relegated Brechin, who remain winless in the league this season.
Magennis collected Adam Eckersley’s throw-in and fired a low shot past home goalkeeper Graeme Smith.
Jordan Sinclair struck the crossbar for the hosts, while Smith made saves to foil Harry Davis and Lewis Morgan and deny the Saints a second.
St Mirren keeper Craig Samson kept out substitute Dylan Mackin’s effort as the visitors held on.
