Former Dortmund coach steps ahead of Conte

Paris Saint-Germain have chosen Thomas Tuchel to replace Unai Emery as head coach for the next two seasons.

The 43-year-old German coach will be taking over Emery's position, despite the fact that the Spaniard can be proclaimed champion of Ligue 1, an achievement that was not reached in the last campaign.

PSG's elimination in the Champions League has been the ultimate push towards the loss of confidence towards Emery.

The leaders of the French team gave him a chance despite the setback suffered during the last campaign, first by their shocking elimination against Barcelona in the Champions League and then their failure to lift the French title.

Club president Nasser Al Khelaifi decided to continue with him as head coach but the loss of confidence has been gradual, first by some technical decisions and then with the defeat against Real Madrid.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach has not been the only option on PSG's radar.

Antonio Conte was also another considered for the French side but his possible stay at Chelsea opened the door for Tuchel to steal the spot.

Tuchel possesses a good football style and was even compared to Pep Guardiola in the Bundesliga, but his sluggish start at Borussia Dortmund served to have his methods questioned.

Now he has the possibility to lead a strong team and play a big role in the Champions League, a title PSG are dreaming to claim.
