James Stevenson’s late effort enough as Peterhead go top of League Two

Peterhead returned to the Ladbrokes League Two summit with a 1-0 win over Annan while rivals Montrose were well beaten at Clyde.
James Stevenson scored an 83rd-minute winner for Peterhead before Annan had Peter Watson sent off. Watson, already booked, was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.
The win took them top on goal difference and, while second-placed Montrose have a game in hand, they will have to bounce back from a shock 3-0 loss at Broadwood Stadium.
All the goals came in a stunning 15-minute salvo at the end of the first half, starting when Mark Lamont fired home from outside the box.
Martin McNiff headed the second from a corner and David Goodwillie’s clinical finish took the Bully Wee clear of danger.
Elgin are just a point behind Stenhousemuir in the race for the final play-off place after a 2-0 win in Saturday’s meeting between the two teams.
Chris McLeish slotted Elgin in front midway through the first half and an unmarked header from Darryl McHardy made the game safe early in the second.
Ashley Grimes cancelled out Jack Hamilton’s goal as Edinburgh City earned a 1-1 draw at Berwick, while there was another draw in the game between Stirling and Cowdenbeath.
Stirling twice led, through Daniel Jardine’s goal and Neil McLaughlin’s penalty, but equalisers from first Robert Buchanan and then Blair Malcolm earned the league’s bottom club a 2-2 draw.
