Tottenham blow: Toby Alderweireld allowed to leave in the summer

Mauricio Pochettino is set to sanction the sale of Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld in the summer, with the player refusing to sign a new contract, according to the Daily Mail.

The Belgian’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2019, and with Spurs’ latest offer deemed inadequate, the player is keen to depart the club this summer.

Alderweireld’s future now rests in the hands of chairman Daniel Levy, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all monitoring the situation.

Top of Pochettino’s demands for his players is that each player must be fully committed to his project, with those who aren’t quickly ousted.

Kyle Walker, Andros Townsend, Nabil Bentaleb, Emmanuel Adebayor, Paulinho and Danny Rose are all players who have either been discarded or removed from his plans with failure to comply with his philosophy in North London.

Alderweireld looks set to be the next player to bite the dust at Tottenham, with the player having made just two FA Cup appearances since returning from injury back in mid-February.

Pochettino has now informed Levy that should the club receive suitable offers for the defender in the summer, the player should be granted his wish to leave.

Huge interest

As expected when one of Europe’s best defender becomes available, there is huge interest from around the continent in signing the player.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester City are all queuing up to take him off the hands of the North Londoners.
