Lowe hails Bury’s ‘never-say-die attitude’ after battling draw

Bury boss Ryan Lowe was delighted with the performance of his players after substitute George Miller’s late goal earned them a 1-1 draw against Blackpool at Gigg Lane.
The Shakers remain rooted to the bottom of the League One table and 12 points adrift of safety, but Lowe has overseen a win and a gritty draw in his team’s last two fixtures.
Lowe said: “It was nice to get another point on the board, so on the back of the win at Oxford last time out, we know we’ve got a bit of momentum going again now.
“We know what we’re up against of course, but the lads are showing that they do want to fight for the club.
“There’s a real never-say-die attitude out there, and that’s what I want.
“I was really pleased with the performance, despite the conditions. I can see I’ve got lads on the pitch and lads on the bench who are chomping at the bit.
“We’re trying our best and I think the fans can see that again now. It’s about trying to instil a bit of belief back into the whole squad.
“That’s nothing out of the ordinary in this game, but I’m happy that the lads are giving it everything.
“The games are coming thick and fast now, so we’ve just got to keep going and keep hoping that we can get ourselves out of this predicament.”
Miller levelled in the 83rd minute after Newcastle loanee Sean Longstaff had volleyed Blackpool in front earlier in the second half.
The Seasiders are only two points clear of the drop zone themselves.
Boss Gary Bowyers said: “I think we should have been here after the game looking at a well-deserved three points.
“The pitch wasn’t great and that certainly didn’t help players on both sides, but we looked in control for large parts of the game.
“We’re frustrated because we’ve been denied late in the game again by poor individual mistakes.
“We’ve not defended properly and at the end we’ve been punished for it.
“I can’t fault the application of the players. There is no lack of trying from any of them so I can’t be too critical.
“It’s still a big learning experience for a lot of them.
“Today’s game was another good example.
“We had a very young team again today, and Bury put out a team with lots of experience and maybe they knew how to cope with the conditions better.
“We’ve still got a lot of learning to do, that’s still evident.”
