Montrose beat Stirling to move four points clear at top

Montrose came from behind to beat Stirling 2-1 and extend their lead at the top of Scottish League Two to four points.

Darren Smith fired Stirling in front in the 14th minute before substitute Craig Johnston equalised 15 minutes from time.

Matty Allan’s header completed the turnaround in the 81st minute to ensure Montrose took advantage of second-placed Peterhead’s defeat at third-bottom Clyde.

Former Scotland international David Goodwillie netted an 85th-minute winner to give Clyde a 1-0 success.

Chris McLeish’s 33rd-minute goal and Thomas Reilly’s late penalty helped Elgin move into the play-off places with a 1-0 win over third-placed Stenhousemuir.

Annan slipped out of the top four following a 3-2 defeat at second-bottom Edinburgh City.

Ashley Grimes’ first-half double and Scott Shepherd’s 51st-minute goal fired City into a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Annan threatened a comeback courtesy of Aidan Smith’s penalty and Blair Henderson’s late strike but left it too late.

Cowdenbeath remain rooted to the bottom, now nine points from safety, after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Berwick.

The bottom side, who are now without a win in 20 matches in all competitions, equalised through Harvey Swann’s penalty on the stroke of half-time following Jack Hamilton’s opener.

But Berwick sealed the points after the break through Steven Thomson and Ouzy See.
