Bayern Munich 5-2 Hoffenheim: Bayern Munich fight back to put five past Hoffenheim

Bayern Munich recovered from a dreadful start as they came back from two goals down to beat Hoffenheim 5-2 in the Bundesliga.

Mark Uth and Serge Gnabry had the visitors 2-0 ahead just 12 minutes into the game but Munich rallied and goals from Robert Lewandowski, Jerome Boateng, Kingsley Coman, Arturo Vidal and Sandro Wagner completed the recovery.

That made it six wins in a row for Bayern and extended their unbeaten run at the Allianz Arena to 32 games – one short of the club record.

Hoffenheim were awarded a penalty just two minutes into the contest when Joshua Kimmich knocked over Gnabry and referee Manuel Grafe pointed to the spot.

However, Gnabry’s penalty was saved by Sven Ulreich but he could not control the rebound and Uth was on hand to tuck the rebound into the back of the net.

Munich looked to hit back immediately and Arjen Robben cut in from the right wing but his left-footed effort was dragged wide in the eighth minute.

And in the 12th minute it was 2-0 when Gnabry fired past Ulreich from 20 yards.

The home side got back into the game in the 21st minute as Coman picked out Kimmich in the box from the left and his shot was deflected into the net by Lewandowski to maintain his record of scoring in all 10 of Bayern’s home games this season.

Four minutes later it was all square as Boateng headed home Robben’s corner for his first Bundesliga goal in 85 games.

David Alaba then tried his luck from a 35-yard free-kick but it flew harmlessly over the crossbar before the hosts had a shout for a penalty dismissed when Kimmich went down following an aerial challenge with Steven Zuber.

Bayern continued to pile forward and Alaba and Vidal both fired narrowly wide with half-time approaching.

And on the stroke of half-time, Lewandowski made space for himself in the box but he could not keep his shot down.

Vidal fired another effort over when he tried his luck from 25 yards 10 minutes into the second half before Robben had another shot blocked as he again cut inside from the right wing.

Niklas Sule then came close to putting the hosts ahead when he met Robben’s corner from the right but his header flew over the bar.

And in a rare Hoffenheim attack after their lightning start, Uth tried his luck from just outside the box but the shot on goal was deflected behind for a corner by Boateng.

The goal Bayern had been threatening came in the 63rd minute from man-of-the-match Coman.

Lewandowski’s flick found Coman down the left and he cut onto his right foot and fired past Oliver Baumann and into the far corner of the net.

Two minutes later and Bayern gave themselves some breathing space when Robben’s corner picked out Vidal at the back post and his header back across goal was over the line before Uth headed it clear with referee’s watch buzzing to indicate it had gone in.

Substitute Wagner wrapped it up against his former club in stoppage time just five minutes after coming on when he was quickest to react when Baumann parried Rafinha’s cross from the right into his path.
