Bayern Munich sign yet another Bundesliga star

German giants Bayern Munich have become even more lethal after signing the highly-prized midfielder Leon Goretzka, once again attracting one of the best talents from their own league.

The player will leave Schalke for free to join the reigning Bundesliga champions in the summer on a deal until 2022.

Snapping up local talent has become something of a tradition in Munich.

This season, the Germans have already spent 41 million euros in the Bundesliga - on Sule, Wagner, Gnabry and Rudy - with three of these players arriving from Hoffenheim.

Beyond this campaign, Bayern sign a star from their rival teams in the German league every season.

In the 2016/2017 season, it was Mats Hummels, who became a part of the Bavarians' plans after leaving Borussia Dortmund on a 35m euro deal.

While in the 2015/2016 season, the versatile right-back Joshua Kimmich arrived at the Allianz Arena from Stuttgart for 8.5m euros.

And in the 2014/2015 campaign, Bayern signed Robert Lewandowski without paying a single euro to their biggest German rivals, Dortmund.

Looking even further back, in the 2013/2014 campaign, Mario Gotze struck a deal with Bayern for 37m euros while in the 2011/12 season, Manuel Neuer came from Schalke for 30m euros.

However, Bayern failed to sign other footballers like Ousmane Dembele (beaten to him by Barcelona), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Granit Xhaka (Arsenal), Ilkay Gondogan (City), Leroy Sane (City), Roberto Firmino (Liverpool), Ivan Perisic (Inter) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United).
