LUKE SHAW has been spotted getting in some late Christmas shopping - but looked to be spending a long time browsing engagement rings.

Manchester United star Shaw was snapped with partner Anouska Santos as they hit the stores for presents before the big day next week.

But judging by the time they spent scouring the engagement rings section of the jewellery shops, they could be planning their own special day in the not too distant future.

Shaw, 22, was left sipping on his smoothie as Anouska paid particular attention to the the sparklers on display.

The couple are well ingrained in the social scene at Old Trafford, having recently attended Phil Jones' wedding and the club's annual charity gala dinner together.

While off the pitch all appears settled, the England left-back's future at United is still open to doubt as the opening of the January transfer window approaches.

He has been left out in the cold for large parts of this season with Jose Mourinho appearing to have decided he did not play any part of his plans.

But in recent weeks he has given the United boss something to think about with two impressive displays.

Shaw was one of United's best players in the 2-1 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow, with qualification to the knock-out stages already assured.

And he was handed his first Premier League start of the season against Bournemouth last weekend, and again showed flashes of his talent up and down the left.

But that may still not be enough to convince Mourinho that he has a long-term future at Old Trafford, with Juventus star Alex Sandro high on his wanted list.

And speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham continues, with the future of Danny Rose at the London club in doubt.

Shaw's fitness and condition has been questioned in the past, with United legend Paul Scholes claiming he did not life a healthy enough lifestyle.

But even if Mourinho does not want the full-back in the long-term, he may still be reluctant to let him leave in the middle of the season.

Ashley Young is established as first choice in that role, but Mourinho will want to have plenty of cover as the second half of the campaign approaches.

With United still involved in Europe, and with the FA Cup challenge about to begin, the fixture list still looks congested and the United boss knows he will have to have depth in his squad to cover.
