Man City star slated online for dive vs Huddersfield

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has this evening been singled out for heavy criticism on social media, following his dive versus Huddersfield.
Matchup
Pep Guardiola's free-scoring Citizens travelled to the Kirklees Stadium on the back of a scintillating run of form, having picked up wins in all but one of their matches across all competitions this season, a 1-1 draw with Everton on the second day of the Premier League campaign.
Their lead atop the English top-flight was cut to 5 points by Manchester rivals United yesterday afternoon, after the Red Devils picked up a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford
Huddersfield, meanwhile, came into today's clash on the back of a harrowing 4-0 loss at Bournemouth last time out, though they had won two of their previous four Premier League fixtures.
Grinding it out
The first-half saw the visitors unsurprisingly dominate in terms of both possession and chances created, with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi all seeing chances come and go.
As such, when the opener came for Huddersfield on the stroke of half-time, it was labelled as the ultimate smash and grab.
Tom Ince's whipped corner from the right flicked off the unfortunate Otamendi's shoulder to leave Ederson helpless in the Citizens' net, with the goal the difference between the sides heading into the interval.
However, unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for Pep Guardiola's men to drag themselves back into proceedings in the second-half, as Raheem Sterling was clumsily taken down by Terriers stopper Scott Malone inside the home side's box, resulting in a penalty.
Sergio Aguero stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, before Sterling continued his stellar recent form to hand the visitors a crucial 3 points when following up Gabriel Jesus' effort 6 minutes from time.
Reaction
While viewers couldn't help but be impressed by some of the splendid football football on show from City, one moment of ugliness from one of Guardiola's stars had fans up in arms on social media.
The player in question was Fernandinho, who theatrically threw himself to the ground on the edge of Huddersfield's box in the 63rd-minute under no contact.
The only excuse that the Brazilian may have had was that he was anticipating contact that never came from Rajiv van La Parra, but Twitter users were in unforgiving mood:
Shocking dive from Fernandinho! Should be banned! #HUDMCI

@FA will Fernandinho get two match ban for the blatant no contact dive??

If Niasse gets a 2 game ban for exaggerating a nudge then surely Fernandinho should get a 2 game ban for a dive.

Yet nothing more will come for Fernandinho. Even though his way a dive of Olympic pool proportions.
