Christian Doidge goal sends Forest Green through to FA Cup second round

Christian Doidge's first-half goal was sufficient to give League Two Forest Green a comfortable FA Cup first-round 1-0 win over National League Macclesfield.
Doidge bundled the ball home on 42 minutes from a Scott Laird cross to put Mark Cooper's side into the hat for Monday's second-round draw.
Six places separated the two sides in the pyramid and it was Rovers who set the tone, Doidge skimming the top of the Macclesfield bar from a neat Manny Monthe pass.
The boot of goalkeeper Brad Collins saved Rovers as the Silkmen found their feet. Tyrone Marsh opened the home side up, but the Chelsea loanee reacted quickly to deny Daniel Whitehead from point-blank range.
Rovers responded, Doidge directing a header wide and Keanu Marsh-Brown forcing Shwan Jalal into a plunging save.
Rovers should have wrapped the tie up on 75 minutes when Reece Brown and Doidge combined to set substitute Omar Bugiel free, but he somehow contrived to skew wide with just Jalal to beat.
