Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is set to take a huge salary

The Etihad midfielder, 26 will surpass team-mates Sergio Aguero and David Silva, who reportedly rake in around £200,000 a week including bonuses.

City were in no rush to tie Belgium’s De Bruyne down to a new deal as he still has three years to go on his current deal.

But talks are now poised to take place quickly so the player can remain focused on helping Pep Guardiola’s men battle on four fronts this season.

De Bruyne earns £140,000 a week on his current deal but his outstanding form so far this season has all parties wanting to cement his long-term future in Manchester.

His agent Patrick De Koster hinted recently he plans to use Neymar’s recent world-record move to Paris St-Germain as leverage in the pay negotiations.

But City have no intention of selling De Bruyne even if they are offered a huge sum either in January or the summer to let him go, with Spanish media reporting the midfielder could be a target for Barcelona if the Catalans fail to land Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho in the summer.

City have moved towards heavily incentivised deals in recent seasons but are happy to push the boat out to secure De Bruyne’s services beyond 2020.

As we reported last month, Manchester City are also on the verge of securing a new deal for De Bruyne’s team-mate Raheem Sterling as Guardiola looks to solidify City’s first team for the foreseeable future.
