Ex-Man Utd and Everton manager David Moyes backed for Scotland job

Graeme Souness has backed former Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes to take over the reins with the Scotland national team.
Following their failure to qualify for next summer’s World Cup, Gordon Strachan left his position by “mutual consent” four days after the 2-2 draw with Slovenia and the search for a replacement is now underway.
Ex-Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers boss Souness has ruled himself out of the running but has thrown compatriot Moyes’ name into the ring as a possible candidate to succeed Strachan.
"I know he has had a difficult time in his last job, but he is Scottish and he understands the Scottish mentality and I think you will agree we are quite different,” said Souness.
"I don’t think the game’s changed too much, he is Scottish, knowledgeable.
"Even when it doesn’t go well for you, you are still learning things in football.
"He has had difficult times in his last job, but I’m sure he’s richer for the experience.”
Moyes has been out of a job since departing Sunderland at the end of last season and is arguably still attempting to rebuild his reputation after difficult spells at United, Real Sociedad as well as the Stadium of Light.
It remains to be seen whether Scotland are able to name their new manager before next month’s international friendly against the Netherlands at the Pittodrie Stadium.
