Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere: I've been written off too quickly

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes he's been written off too quickly by pundits.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has represented England on no fewer than 34 occasions, recently came back from suffering a hairline fracture in his left leg, which he sustained in April while on a season-long loan at Bournemouth.

Wilshere presently has less than a year on his current Emirates deal, but despite what many think feels his long-term future is at the north London club, whom he's started playing for again and when asked if people wrote him off too soon Wilshere was adamant in his answer.

"Yeah, but that is part and parcel of football," Wilshere said, reports the Times.

"Football is a game where people forget. Everyone says ‘you are never fit' but last season I was fit for the whole season.

"Yeah, I definitely feel I am back. People say it's a long road but it was four months and I have had longer than that before. I feel good. People sometimes forget things in football. Last season I had a full season.

Whether people think I did well or not, I had a full season and only picked up an impact injury at the end of the season. That was unfortunate timing but throughout my rehab it went well."

"I felt good coming back to Arsenal and into training and the boss has been good. He has been speaking to me, been patient and I feel good. Am I 100 per cent back? Maybe not," he added.

I felt good in the first half and start of the second and then fitness wise it started to go a bit towards the end. But that is natural and normal.

"It has been a while since I felt a proper Arsenal player but I am back, in training, back in the squad, playing these types of games. I am doing everything I can to stay fit, training well, we will see. I am not looking too far ahead."

Wilshere to rival Mesut Ozil?
A graduate of the Gunners academy, Wilshere made his bow in the 2008/09 season becoming the club's youngest ever league debutant at the age of 16 years and 256 days.

Across his 163 matches for the Gunners, in which he's registered 12 goals and 25 assists, Wilshere has played in a multitude of roles under manager Arsene Wenger.

His most prominent role been in central midfield, but on occasions Wenger has fielded him in attacking midfield, where he was situated in the Gunners recent Europa League win over Bate.

"Yeah, I felt good [vs Bate] and I have said it for a while," Wilshere added.

"I was playing a different position, coming off the line to link with Theo and Olivier and especially in the first half it worked really."

On his future, Wilshere added: "You are always playing for your future but at the moment I am happy to be back, to feel part of the squad.

"It has been a while, you forget. Do I see myself staying? Of course I do. I have always been at Arsenal, I love this club. They have been good to me over the years, I have a great relationship with the boss. He has played me since I was 17. He has put his trust in me since then. We have a great understanding and of course I want to stay."
