Marcelo: If not for my grandfather, I would never have made it to Real Madrid

After renewing his Real Madrid contract until 2022, Marcelo shared emotional memories of his grandfather Pedro, who played a key role in his early days of playing football.
The Brazilian was asked about his grandfather's influence on his career and he did not hesitate to talk about him as one of the most important figures in his development into a professional footballer.
"I always think of good memories," Marcelo said.
"With my grandfather, I have no bad memories and today he will be happy to see that my family has grown up and that I am happy in my work.
"I have been here for over 10 years now, but if it was not for him I would never have made it here."
Pedro was integral as Marcelo grew up playing football and was responsible for bringing him to training despite his mother, a teacher, being annoyed at the subsequent bad school reports.
He also worked with the young Brazilian on his game in his retirement.
