Barcelona were willing to pay Di Maria 10 million euros per year

One of Barcelona's major goals in the summer transfer window was to sign Angel Di Maria from Paris Saint-Germain and they were prepared to spend big to do so.

Both the club's hierarchy and Ernesto Valverde viewed the former Real Madrid winger as the ideal player to compensate for Neymar's exit.

Barcelona even made the player an offer of 10 million euros net per season, which would have made him the third-highest paid player at the club, behind only Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

That would made his pay packet a little higher than established Blaugrana stars such as Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique, although a deal could not be reached between Barcelona and PSG, so the potential transfer fell through.

The Catalan club didn't want to pay PSG's asking price and assist them in their battle to deal with Financial Fair Play.

Two years ago, the French club had paid in the region of 60m euros to sign Di Maria from Manchester United.
